Kovu

In the movie, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, the main antagonist is Zira. Zira is Scar's former mate who stayed loyal to him and was exiled by Simba when he took control of Pride Rock. Zira is the leader of the exiled lionesses and has 3 cubs. Two cubs fathered by Scar and one fathered by an unknown lion. Nuka and Vitani are Scar's offspring and Kovu is the offspring of the unknown lion. Even though Kovu is not Scar's biological son, he names him his heir. Zira claims that Kovu is the rightful king of the Pridelands and that the outlanders will rule again. Kovu meets Kiara, Simba and Nala's daughter. They become friends and eventually, mates.

What I'm wondering is who is the unknown male lion? He is never mentioned. What happened to his other lion? In the first movie, there are only 3 male lions, Simba, Scar and Mufasa. Mufasa is Simba's father and dies while Simba is still a young cub. Scar is Mufasa's brother and Simba's uncle and is only named as Nuka and Vitani's father. Simba's only cub is Kiara. So where is Kovi's father? Zira doesn't ever say anything about his father. I'm wondering if Kovu is somehow related to Simba and Kiara...

Kovu is Scar's chosen heir, but not his biological son. Kovu was the last cub born before Simba exiled Scar's followers and the hyenas. Zira was Scar's mate, then how is Kovu not Scar's son? If the pride was like other lion prides, then a rouge male may have challenged Scar and lost. That male couls be Kovu's biological father. If Scar wasn't related to Kovu, and Kovu was a rival male's cub, why did he pick him as his heir?

Scar and Kovu look alot alike. Both of them are dark brown with black manes. Both lion have green eyes and heart-shaped noses. The similar appeances might be one of the reasons that Scar chose Kovu as his heir. Nuka is Scar's biological son and looks almost nothing like him. Vitani is Scar's daughter and looks like Zira. I would love to see the real family tree for these lions because I'm throughly confused.

I've always loved the Lion King movies. I watched the second movie a few days ago and noticed that Kovu was not related to Scar and his father was never mentioned. So where did Kovu come from? If Kovu was Scar's son, then that means Kovu is Simba's 1st cousin and Kiara's 2nd cousin. If he wasn't, what happened to the mystery lion? Did he threaten Scar and get himself killed? If Zira was so commited to Scar, why did she have another cub with a rouge lion? Why would Scar pick the cub of a rival male as his heir? So many questions, so few answers...
